Statistical Analysis of BPSK-Like Techniques for the Acquisition of Galileo Signals
نویسنده
چکیده
The main modulation types selected for the future Galileo signals are sine and cosine Binary-Offset-Carrier (SinBOC/CosBOC) modulations. On one hand, BOC-modulated signals have a narrower main lobe of their Autocorrelation Function (ACF), which allows a better accuracy in the delay tracking process. On the other hand, the acquisition process becomes more complex, due to the ambiguities in the ACF, which impose a large number of timing hypotheses for accurate detection of the signal. Several Binary-Phase-Shift-Keying (BPSK)like methods have been proposed in the literature so far and they are based on the idea that the BOC-modulated signal can be seen as a superposition of two BPSK-modulated signals, located at negative and positive subcarrier frequencies. If only one band (i.e., positive or negative) is used, we have a single SideBand (SB) technique. If both bands are used (and combined non-coherently) we have a dual SB technique. While removing the nonambiguities in the ACF, both single and dual SB techniques suffer of performance degradation compared to a pure BPSK method, due to the non-coherent processing and to the deterioration of the correlation function properties after filtering or band selection. This paper proposes a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the properties of the BPSK-like techniques, based on the statistics of the detection variables, obtained from the simulations.

Complexity Considerations for Unambiguous Acquisition of Galileo Signals
In order to obtain a higher spectral separation from the BPSK-like signals, i.e. GPS C/A code, the signals proposed for future Galileo and GPS M-code signals are processed using split-spectrum type modulations, such as Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) modulation. These BOC modulations create deep fades (ambiguities) in the envelope of the Autocorrelation Function (ACF) of signal, and therefore the a...

The Binary Offset Carrier planned for future GNSS signals, including several GALILEO signals as well as GPS M-code, presents a high degree of spectral separation from conventional signals. It also greatly improves positioning accuracy and enhances multipath rejection. However, with such a modulation, the acquisition process is made more complex. Specific techniques must be employed in order to ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Filter-Bank-Based Methods for Fast Serial Acquisition of BOC-Modulated Signals
Binary-offset-carrier (BOC) signals, selected for Galileo and modernized GPS systems, pose significant challenges for the code acquisition, due to the ambiguities (deep fades) which are present in the envelope of the correlation function (CF). This is different from the BPSK-modulated CDMA signals, where the main correlation lobe spans over 2-chip interval, without any ambiguities or deep fades...
متن کاملJitter Analysis of QPSK and BOC(n,n) GNSS Signals
This paper analyzes the effects of jitter on the GPS and Galileo navigation signals. Jitter effects have usually been modelled as additive noise, based on a sinusoidal input signal, and limits the achievable Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Analysis shows that psec-level jitter specifications are required in order to keep jitter noise well below the thermal noise for software radio satellite naviga...
